Namma Ooru Chennai!
The moment you enter into Chennai, you will surely whine over its sultry weather. OMG! 40 degrees C will vaporise you. This is what I felt when I stepped on to pebble beach which is adjacent to old Mahabalipuram road.
Sundays always motivate us to go on a long drive, not minding the scorching sunlight, and on clear plan to escape entering kitchen to cook. We drove towards Mahabalipuram. I never understand ‘Sarvana Bhavan’, ‘Adayar Anand Bhavan’ , how these names will mouth water me . Ok, maybe I was hungry! Our breakfast pit stop was at Vasanta Bhavan on OMR.
I was expecting that hotel to be half full but I was taken by surprise we had to wait for our turn. Me and my Mom cultivated this habit of ogling at people around, there was a family of 5 beside us. They consumed food worth 1300 bucks. The last figure left my mouth open. Seriously 1K just for breakfast ? The spending power gone up so well in India. A moment to feel proud about my fellow countrymen. This bubble was burst by mom’s common saying about generation “varavu ettu anna selavu pattu anna”(Income of the present generation is 8INR but, they spend 10INR) .Over this argument we finished our sumptuous breakfast and dived into ‘slurpy filter Kaffi’ in traditional serving.
We again started our drive, I have been to so many metros and developing cities but Chennai alone is the nest of “Kutical “and “sophisticated towers”. Chennaites never abandon their tradition of jasmine flowers and temple design sarees, caring not for any number of fashion studio’s popping up. As said always “Be like a Roman in Rome”, I would always love to be “Chennaite in Chennai”. Oops! Now that we finally reached Mahabalipuram. It’s time to vapourise J!
